So now the debt limit has been raised. Everyone except a Chinese rating agency feels that our AAA rating is secure in the short term anyway. And most imperative, the hunt is on to pick a WINNER. Why? That one I can't figure. The extreme right seems to have held the political process hostage for some obscure kindergarten reason and taken somber delight in the act. To quote the reporter (supposedly HL Menken) in 'Inherit the Wind', ''...while they coo and bellow...". I personally would have felt a lot better if the centrists had left things alone and let Mr. Obama invoke the 14th Amendment. And I'm not sure why save for the fact that I really don't like a bunch of assholes of both genders telling everyone what to do, or not do, with their plumbing, their lives, and their political will. And it nauseates and infuriates me to be forced to take the side of those wanting an abortion. I really don't pretend to know what is right on that one; I'd rather not think about it. BUT again there's the fact that some jerk or jerkette feels the urge to Pontificate (pun intended) on the subject as though they and only those like them are privy to some higher moral information. I have no idea what God is like, but it would be great to watch as one of those assholes finds out that the deity is dressed in drag. THAT would be worth any admission short of my Immortal soul.
So for right now we can sit back, watch TV (yup too much of that), and wait for the next shoe to drop. It's so much easier than getting involved.

Whew
That went well. It was a tossup as to whether the correction of an insurance snafu (anyone know the origin of that acronym?) or a root canal would prove to be more painful. Neither posed any discomfort whatsoever. The nice lady was very helpful and changed a data entry problem with my birthdate immediately. I was listed as being 8 days older than I am. At my stage of life I don't want to be thought of as even 8 days older!
The root canal was a piece of cake. A little local anesthesia and an hour later to the minute I walked away with a the prospects of a lot more mileage out of a well thought of member of my dentition. Now I have to go and do the same. This is one of the two days I'm scheduled to work this month and I'm looking forward to it. If I was still fully employed it would be probably a different story. But it's Friday and I get to benefit from everyone's Friday high w/o putting in a whole week. Good deal.

Electronic irritations
Dependence on databases, data entry, and online aids snuck up on me. So far today I've had trouble with this website and the dumb graphics used to separate men from Skynet when doing something online that can be abused by bots. Usually it takes at least three attempts to get the thing right. passwords are not too much of a problem because I use something familiar. My life is not a spy novel. But the sixteen or more digit serial numbers used to activate programs usually trip me up. These are irritations though, not hurdles or roadblocks. I have one potential crack in the sidewalk right now.
Delta Dental is the contractee for military retiree dental insurance. I have had this insurance for several years and, being a dentist, use it. You've heard the jingle if you're my age; "Brush your teeth with C++++++ and see your dentist twice a year." Not bad advice. But I have an appointment for the dreaded root canal today. The time escaped me and I called. TheNiceLady (they usually are pleasant to old guys; if not find someone else to do business with) said that the carrier had my birthday wrong and that the office couldn't verify benefits. Why do they have it wrong? I have used the insurance for a while. Did a cosmic ray zap my data AND THE BACKUP? And most importantly, how much trouble is it going to be to get someone on the phone and get them to believe me before 11:15. So far one phone call told me that they were not open until 6:30 AM PDT. Now there's a convenience for 2/3rds of the country!
Tune in tomorrow to find out how the insurance thingie turned out-- that is if I'm not in too much pain from the dreaded root canal.
